The ‘Sweet Tooth’ series featuring Gummy, Squashie, and Jelly was initially inspired by the shapes and colours of sweets in the jar in my kitchen.

Rectangular, brightly coloured brushstrokes layered in varying shades influenced by Damien Hirst’s ‘Visual Candy’ works. The white spaces between these forms became a point of interest within the process of making the paintings which created the idea of outlining these spaces with thick lines of paint.

 

Flat planes of solid colour are utilised to create a silence within the chaos of the marks; the contrast between the structured and the organic brushstrokes. 'Sweet Tooth' is an exploration of colour, shape and form.
